Beautiful Bowron Lakes
This beautiful provincial park, 32 km east of Barkerville is one of the top canoeing destinations. Portages help form a rectangular chain through spectacular mountain scenery, allowing canoeists to return to their starting point six or seven days later. Shorter excursions are available. The park is home to some of Canada’s finest wildlife viewing opportunities. Bald eagles, moose, beavers, and bears are regularly seen from your canoe. Reservations with BC Parks are required for overnight canoe trips. Becker’s Lodge offers chalets, cabins, camping and RV sites. Canoe rentals and provisions are available from several outfitters. Whitegold Adventures offers the only locally guided canoe and ski trips from 1 day marsh tours to 8 day circuits (www.whitegold.ca).
Lakeside lodges and campgrounds provide a home base for your adventure. Rent a canoe for an hour or a week, or just relax by the lake. Catch your trout or Kokanee dinner from the lake and BBQ over an open fire. Bowron Lake in winter is equally spectacular. Take a winter tour with an expert guide through the frozen lakes, grand winter vistas and cozy cabins.
